FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What will I gain from life coaching?  In many ways, that depends on you! We will give you 100% of our efforts, but how much progress you make is up to you. As we mention on our front page, a recent ICF study shows that 98.5% of clients believe their investment in life coaching was well worth their investment. How many other fields can claim such a high success rate? We will help you go through the process of understanding where you want to go in life, knowing what your options are, establishing a game plan, and putting that plan into practice. It's your life, and ultimately you decide how much you will get out of life coaching. Wherever you set your sights, we will be there to help you reach your goals.

  2. What can I expect in a typical coaching session?  All sessions are conducted over the phone. You, the client, are responsible to call the life coach at the scheduled time. You and your coach will usually begin by praying that God will bless your session and bring clarity to the situation. The life coach will begin by asking you about the areas of life in which you would like to grow. You set the pace! The coach is there to help you stay on track, ask probing questions, offer feedback and encouragement, and help you clearly define your areas of growth. Some clients may want to look at options for going into a new job field; others desire to be more organized in their daily schedule; others want to set a regular plan for prayer time and Bible study; others will want to figure out which college to attend; others want to discover their function in the church; still others may want to establish a 10-year plan to gain some sense of direction in their lives. You choose which areas you want to talk about. The coach is there to help you process these areas effectively. At the end of each session, the coach will summarize what you have discussed, and you will set some goals to accomplish before your next session. This will be your "homework". You will usually close in prayer, asking God to enable you grow in the areas you have discussed during the session and to equip you for achieving your goals. The next session will follow the same format, except the coach will begin by asking how you did on your homework. If you weren't able to finish all your homework, you may want to look at setting more realistic goals for next time. If you found the homework too easy, you may want to set bigger goals for next time. The goal of life coaching is to help you depend more on God and to become a useful servant in His hands.

  3. How does life coaching differ from counseling?  Counseling essentially helps people fix what is "broken". In contrast, life coaching works with people who are generally well adjusted in life, but they are looking for something more. Counseling is a very important field, and if you are seeking to recover from an addiction, experiencing turmoil in your marriage, recovering from traumatic events, or need genuine healing in any number of areas, counseling is highly encouraged, especially by a counselor who is well-versed in God's Word. Life coaching is recommended for those who do not need counseling but simply want to understand God's purpose in their lives, follow that purpose, and live their life to the fullest. In each session, the coach and the client will establish goals to work in a positive direction. A great deal of positive change occurs through life coaching.

  4. Do you only work with Christians?  No. We primarily work with Christians, but we also work with non-Christians. We especially work with you to set goals for your job and education. We also help individuals develop 5-year, 10-year, or 20-year plans. For example, at many job interviews, prospective employees are asked, "Where do you see yourself in ten years?" Many people have no idea how to answer this question. We can help you answer that question and more by helping you establish long-term goals to give you a greater sense of direction in life.

  5. Why are sessions conducted over the phone?  We have found that voice-to-voice sessions are less distracting than face-to-face sessions. In our society we often make many judgments based on appearances, including race, gender, age, height, weight, fashion sense, and any number of things. Since life coaching sessions delve into the thought process required to achieve your goals, we have found that talking over the phone helps both the coach and the client focus more on "personhood", rather than external appearances. Additionally, phone sessions save time. Instead of having to drive to an office, you can call from home, on the road, or over your lunch hour. For these reasons, most clients have found that they prefer having their sessions over the phone.
  6. What do other life coaches charge?  Life coaching often ranges anywhere from $150 to $1,000 per month. (Some business executive coaches even charge over $10,000 per month!) At Professional Christian Life Coaching, we have a strong passion for helping people and seeing them succeed, and we therefore try to keep our rates as low as possible to make our services affordable for everyone.

  7. Do you provide special discount rates? Yes, we have special student, military, and senior citizen discounts. (Click on our Rates page for more information.) If you cannot afford the normal rates, please don't hesitate to contact us.  We want to help as many people as possible, and we work with all budgets.
